Ready or Not....Here It Comes

This what Christmas is supposed to look like, right?  Dad is relaxed and spending time with the children (who are HAPPY) and Mom?  Mom is whizzing around in 3-inch heels whipping up casseroles, shopping, wrapping presents, and keeping the house free of dust bunnies.....all while humming "Joy to the World."

That is sooooo not how things are going down around here.  Tim's not getting home until 8:00 in the evenings.  Megan is an absolute bear to say the least and can't even manage to look at me without getting snarky.  The house was clean, but no one's doing their part to keep it that way.  The presents aren't wrapped yet.....or in several cases, even bought.  The dinner menu isn't planned.  This morning I'm thinking I just want to survive till next week.  The Grinch has stolen my Christmas spirit.  :(

My husband and I were just talking about how the stress of a perfect Christmas falls on the mom/wife. Since we don't have families that get along, we don't have to worry about having everyone over. Since we don't have any discretionary money, we don't exchange gifts. Since I try to be green, we don't send cards. Since my students provide me with treats, I do very little baking.

Instead, I enjoy the lights, tree, and getting little goodies for my son's stocking. Brad is off today for an overnight to Indy to see he kids with books for gifts for seven of his grandkids. I'm looking for the quiet.

I guess I'm just saying, find your peace. That's been my favorite thing about this season for a few years now, the Peace. All the hustle and bustle isn't what's going to feed you, but I know something will if you shed the Grinch! ;)

Hugs.

Wise words, Ellie. I'm not usually so frazzled, but for some reason nothing came together this year until the last minute. I am NEVER out there shopping for more than one or two things this close to Christmas. This year I'm doing all of it this week. I don't know what happened?

And Megan? Grrrrr. Just grrrrr. She is being completely miserable with me these days and I don't even want to get into what's going on in her life. Let's just say it's not good.

BWAHAHAHA I love the Grinch. Care to run away with moi, belly up to some fine food and drink and watch it pass and say gee there's always next year!! Mele Kalikimaka to all of you :)

I get so tired of all this "forced" happiness that we're all pushed to feel when life is anything but "merry" during the holidays. I'm feeling VERY Grinchy right now too for different reasons. Hang in there darling and take one day at a time. Sending you lots of hugs.

Thom....as a matter of fact, I'd love to run away to your island and chill till it's all over. Mele Kalikimaka to you, too!

Wendy....thank you for the hugs. Hugs are always the right size, color, etc....though it is good to return them. ;) What's wrong? Email me or I will try to email you.

Oh my dear sweet friend. The Beach and Cabana boys are the main attraction :) It isn't a party without those two main ingredients. And they will indulge us well with Food, Spirits and presents galore :)

My husband and I were thinking of going to a beach for Christmas, but the shores of Lake Michigan aren't too inviting this time of year...

You know, I told Amoeba I wanted to rent a kid this year because Christmas just isn't Christmas without little ones -- but thank you for reminding me why our quiet cuddly day with meatloaf for dinner was also a blessing.
