Stylin'

My good bloggy friend, Wendy, over at The Year of the Cats has given me an award.  I admit to mixed emotions at hearing the news.  Awards are good in themselves.  Everyone likes and needs a little pat on the back from time to time and I believe as a wise old friend once said, "There is a little bit of magic in every blog."  In fact, there is a little frog wizard that sits here on my desk that was awarded to me by that friend...his way of reminding me.

The bad thing about these blogging awards is that they usually come with more strings attached than a marionette.  You know what I'm talking about....as the recipient you must jump through all manner of hoops.  Tell 100 unknown things about yourself, tag 25 new blogs, and so on.  For me, that takes all the fun out of it and who wants to saddle someone else with that responsibility?

For example, the formal rules of this award are this:
1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award!
Ugh!  I have enough to do and I can't come up with 15 recently discovered blogs.  I am actually pretty slow when it comes to accumulating blog friends.  I can maybe come up with five.  If I squinch up my face and think really hard.  So, imagine my relief when Wendy decided to vamp up the award a little and change the rules to.....NO RULES!

I can handle no rules, so here is the Stylish Blog Award I've decided to graciously accept with much gratitude and awww-shucksing.  Me, stylish??  Well, maybe when you take it Wendy's way.....to give it to blogs who each have a unique style that you like and admire.

.Yearcatstylishblogaward Hey, everyone! Im styling...

I think I'll follow in Wendy's footsteps and give you the seven previously unknown facts about me.

1.  I'm a bit of an animal "whisperer".  All of my life there has been a deep connection to animals.  I was in my element when my family lived in a wildlife preserve.  I had access to all manner of animals and spent much of my free time in the pens with them.  My family thinks I'm a bit nuts, but I'm telling you if you pay attention animals have facial expressions and emotions of a kind and they do communicate very clearly what they are feeling or wanting.

2.  I started life being left-handed.  I began school when teachers still "discouraged" left-handedness.  Couple that with my dad smacking my left-hand every time I used it...it didn't take me long to figure out being a righty.  Not that it's ever felt natural.

3.  I, who can't carry a tune across the road in a bucket, and was labeled tone-deaf by a music teacher was in a hand bell choir in elementary school.  It wasn't by choice.  I went to an exclusive private school for a few years and participation was required of all girls.  We performed in front of the school and at area churches and I'll have you know I played 3 or 4 bells at a time.  So, how did someone who doesn't know an A-flat from a C-sharp manage that?  I learned to count notes and my teacher circled the ones I had to play and made notes about whether they were long or short notes.  No one outside the bell choir ever knew.

4.  I am a sucker for really bad, cheesy, or campy movies.  Think Hairspray, Grease, The Great Outdoors, Dirty Dancing, every movie ever made by a Saturday Night Live alumnus....

5.  At one time I was on track to become a minister.  I had interviewed with my region's governing body and been approved for seminary classes.  Then things happened and I didn't go to school.  Things have been happening lately that have opened that door again.  I'm planning to talk to the conference director about taking classes.

6.  I was a wild party girl in college.  I'd have probably flunked out in one more semester if I hadn't left to get married.  I did the whole sorority thing and at the university I went to it was possible to go to a frat party 6 nights a week.  I did.  Religiously.  When the liquor control board clamped down on the frats because of underage, high school students being found at the parties, the frats started keeping lists at the door.  If you were on the list you got in.  I was on every list.  My last boyfriend before Tim?  I don't want to call him a drug dealer, but what else do you call someone who took his frat brothers' money, drove to Philly and came back with a trunk full of pot?  I wasn't Girls Gone Wild wild, but well.......

7.  I dated a Rod Stewart wanna-be.

I'm going to pass this on to four blog friends.  To those who receive it, remember.....there are no rules or conditions for accepting.  You don't have to list any facts or pass it on if you don't want to.  Or you can run with the original rules if you're a glutton for punishment.  Heck, you can even make up your own rules if you want to.

Without further ado...my picks for the Stylish Blog Award.

Quilly at Quintessentially Quilly.  Quilly is an amazing writer with a big, warm heart.  I love the community she has built on her blog as well as her wit and wisdom.  She is also a big reader and is always reviewing books or having some kind of give away.

Ellen at The Art of Losing Myself who is simply the sweetest person.  She has a beautiful, gentle spirit and a visit to her blog leaves you filled with peace.  She has such a joy in the every day that you'll find it's catching.

John at Coffeypot is a crusty old salt who I'm sure will be surprised at being given an award for style, but I'm going to blow his "secret."  He blogs and works tirelessly on behalf of our men and women in uniform and he's been known to drive from Georgia to New York IN A BLIZZARD to take homeless animals to their new "forever" families.  For a big dose of patriotism and a little bit of "naughty" laughter, John's blog is the place to go.

Beth at Beth A Work In Progress shares the trials and blessings of her life with amazing honesty.  She also shares great insights and teaches us how to do the techy things with our blogs we can't figure out on our own.  She's built a great community.

If you haven't visited them before, take the time today and make a new friend.

Thank you for this wonderful award! You said such nice things about me I want to copy and frame your words!

You and I could go to the movies together! If it is cheesy I probably like it!

I am humbled by your kind words. I'm not so sure I'm at all stylish though, so I may have to send some other blogger to accept this award in my place.

However, I really am deeply touched to read your words above.

You make me laugh every post, so I'm thankful for you!

As for classes, return to them! I'm envious, in a good way, I love talking about God and would love to know enough to teach about Him! Do it.

Well, sir....it certainly is a free country and you have a right to your opinions. I find it interesting that while you feel free to come to MY blog (what on earth did bring you here?) and air your bigoted views of American Women, I was unable to comment when I went to your blog. You are a coward sir, hiding behind your anonyminity....afraid to hear opposing view points. I think I can speak for the majority of American women when I say no tears will be shed over your decision to boycott us. Your loss is our gain.

Ladies....I am glad you appreciated your awards. I'd respond to your comments, but I feel like I need to take a bath to remove the filth that's been drug in here....and then spend some time with God so I don't say anything I regret.

The same man left a comment on my blog, the post about Vicki being led to Christ. I was going to write back to him and ask him to check where he was posting, it was rather insensitive--not to mention I'm an American woman too--but like you said, no comments on his blog.

I doubt he'll return to yours, which is unfortunate, I believe he's just going from one to the next to the next.

I believe you're right Ellen. (Shaking head and mumbling not so Christian things.)

I got that same fricking spam about the man who doesn't like "American Women" Stacy, LMAO!!! I loved your reply to him. Stacy, you ARE styling, you have a style that makes me laugh and I swear we are so much alike. Being left-handed makes a person more creative and artistic vs. people who have a right hand dominance. Not saying that people who are r. handed aren't creative, but it's a different kind of creative. It would be interesting to just practice drawing or writing with your L. hand. Of course, it will be awkward at first but you'll be able to access a part of your brain that unfortunately was shut down. Between you and I dating wanna be musicians, Rod Stewart for you and Sid Vicious for me, we could share some hysterical stories. And we were both pretty wild in our younger days, well, we're both still pretty wild, but we may not be wild in the same way. I'm looking forward to visiting the other blogs who you've nominated. Still cracking up over your reply to the jerk and his hatred for American women, LOL!
