~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of weeks ago, I did a post on the Bible study I'm doing at church.  I shared what I was learning about answering God's higher calling for women and what exactly it means to be a Godly woman.  Along with studying what we are supposed to do, we are also studying what not to do.
I know a few women who exemplify what a godly women should be.  Most of the women I know are in the same boat that I am...struggling along trying to do our best.  Then there are the few who show beyond question what not to do.  I work with one of those women.
S is a mother, a grandmother, a regular church attender, active in community groups, involved in everything, knows everyone....blah, blah, blah.  There is probably no one woman in her church who does more or works harder.  She can provide a funeral dinner single handedly, which is part of the problem.  S has one of the most miserable attitudes you'd ever want to run up against.
She does all that and mostly by herself, because no one else can do it well enough to suit her.  She does not work out of concern for others, but for the pat on the back it earns her.  She will be the first one to tell you about all she does.  And I do mean ALL.  It's important to her that you know how long the list of her good deeds is.
S thrives on misery and gossip.  Just yesterday she was waiting for me after the morning bus runs, waving me over to her car urgently.  I thought something was wrong.  It turns out she wanted to know if I "saw anything unusual" leaving the school.  No?  Well, she had looked over at a house that sits across from a stop sign and saw the man who lives there standing on his porch wearing no pants.  It doesn't seem so bad that she told....until you know she knows the man from church!! and that he suffers from Parkinson's Disease, which affects the mind in later stages.  I was stunned that she would be like that toward someone she calls a friend.  It makes me wonder what she says behind my back.
S is also the person I worked with to organize the Civic Club's bingo and lunch this past Sunday.  She shocked me repeatedly during our work together with questionable morals.  She suggested more than once that we choose one of the restaurant gift certificates donated and treat ourselves to lunch for all our hard work!  Holy cow!  I'm pretty sure that is a crime.
Anyway....I guess what I'm getting at is that it's good to have examples and role models and I am thankful for the wonderful women I know who show me how it's done, the amazing women who are learning right along with me and maybe I'm most thankful for the bad examples, the ones who make me cringe with their words and actions, but let me see clearly what a wrong heart looks like.  So, while I pray for women like S to be changed, I also thank God for showing me how ugly ungodly behavior can be.
OMG!! I used to LOVE that song.
You are very lucky to have women in your life you look up to.
What an excellent point! God can choose all sorts of ways to teach us how He desires that we live! And sometimes we can more clearly see the "thou shalt nots" when there are prime examples right in front of us!
I grew up in a baptist church and unfortunately know exactly the type of person you mean. Luckily, my mom, the church secretary, was always a pillar of class - the most prominent woman in my life was a great example for me. Thank you Lord. :)
BTW, you totally inspired my post today. :) Iused the pic you sent me and built off the comment i left the other day. Hee!
Examples of what not to do are abundant. I always pray I don't become one of them!
How do you respond when this woman tries gossiping to you or suggests you join her in inappropriate activities? Does she know how people view her behavior? Ifs there any chance she might thing it's approved?
