My Joy

Did you have a wonderful Mothers' Day?  Mine was nice, maybe not overly "mother-y" but nice just the same.  My son is 24, married and has a daughter of his own so I consider myself lucky that he calls me to wish me a happy Mothers' Day.

My daughter is still at home, but legally an adult and pushing that fact down my throat every chance she gets.  LOL  She chose yesterday to not come home at all or even to call until noon.  In a satisfying twist....when she called to say that she'd be home in just a few minutes to spend some time with me for Mothers' Day, I got to tell her I wasn't home.  She was a bit put out.  We did connect later for supper and she gave me flowers.

I wasn't home because Tim and I took advantage of the beautiful day and him not working to get out of the house.  We went to the mall where we bought a new trimmer at Sears (ooooh...the excitement!) and I got a new Bible (had to break down and buy one with large print) and a couple of other books since I am starting to get my feet wet in the teaching arena again by leading this week's Bible study.  From there we went to a nursery we discovered last year.  Tim bought me a gorgeous red lilac bush (it's called Tinkerbelle) and wanting something to dress up the blank far end of the house he picked out rose bushes.  I forget the name of them, but they should end up being 3' x 3' because you don't keep them trimmed back, you don't have to mulch them, they're disease resistant, Japanese beetle resistant, and they bloom profusely from now until the killing frost.  They are gorgeous and the smell is heavenly!  The man done good.  We placed everything and got it planted before dinner.

Mom came down to visit while we were planting.  I had taken her gift up in the morning but she wasn't home so I had left it on the back porch for her to find.  She was fighting with her husband (they are like an old-time comedy act of a bickering couple....ALWAYS at it) so came down to get out of the house.

Day 6 prompt:  Something that excites you and fills you with joy.

This one is easy!  The one thing that excites me most and fills my heart with joy is my granddaughter.  I adore everything about her.  She is smart and cute and funny and loves to learn.....and there is no feeling in the world like her chubby little arms wrapping around my neck for a big squeeze.

My joy.

No mom-ish at all. Mac called from Baton Rouge, my mom is dead, Brad worked...but still a great, beautiful day!

I remember when I was little saying to my parents "Well, when is kids day?" and they would say "EVERY day is kids day..." sigh, how true. So, that's why I'm glad that you and Tim went out and celebrated the day in your own way. I'm so envious that you can grow Lilac where you are. We can but they're not the beautiful and fragrant ones like I like. Happy late Mothers Day :)

Ellen...I'm glad you still managed to have a nice day. :)

Wendy...I think that saying is ingrained into every parents' brain. LOL Tinkerbelle isn't in full bloom yet so I don't know if she's fragrant or not. I'm hoping so. The roses sure are at least.

Grandkids are heart stealers aren't they! We adore ours even when they're overwhelming us!

Josiah stayed home with me all day yesterday and the two of us went out to lunch. It had been a long time since I had so much time alone with my boy! It was a GREAT way to spend Mother's Day!

Love this post! I have a 17 year old daughter that's on the big countdown to her 18th birthday when she will be an adult and able to do whatever she wants. I agree that it can't come quick enough. Oh do I miss the days when she was sugar and spice and everything nice. I'll be back to visit again. I love your style. Nice to meet you!
