Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Do you and your family enjoy camping? What do you enjoy the most/like the least about family camping? When was the last time you camped?
~ The kids and I always liked camping.  We like to fish, boat, hike, sit around the campfire.  Tim, not so much.  He'd rather go to a hotel and do less "rustic" things.  I think it all goes back to him growing up poor.  I think he sees going to a hotel as being successful, while camping is what the poor people do.

2. Did you attend a summer camp as a kid? Is that a happy or not so happy memory?
~ No, I never went to an actual summer camp.  I spent a summer working in the Poconos with the Youth Conservation Corps.  That was kind of like camp only we worked rather than did crafts.  Still we did a lot of camping, hiking and canoeing.

3. Over the course of your life, what have you probably spent more time pondering than anything else?
~ What on Earth am I supposed to be doing with my life?

4. Which of the seven natural wonders of the world would you most like to see? There are many lists of wonders but this is the standard natural wonder list-Mount Everest, The Great Barrier Reef, The Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls, The Harbor of Rio de Janerio, Paricutan Volcano and The Northern Lights.
~ I'd like to see them all, but The Great Barrier Reef is at the top of the list.  We were able to send our daughter to Australia two summers ago and she brought back the most amazing pictures from the Reef.

5. What was your first real job?
~ Babysitting for my dad's cheap-o boss.  Three kids for six or seven hours and he'd give me $5.  One New Year's Eve they had me watch another three kids on top of theirs....still got $5.  I never said anything because the guy was my dad's boss.  The first job I had that paid was as a finisher in a foam rubber plant.

6. Lemonade or sweet tea...which do you prefer on a hot summer day?
~ I don't like sweet tea and my lemonade better have some other fruit in it.

7. What is something that always brings a smile to your face?
~ My dogs.

8. Insert your own random thought here-
Of all the horrid, hideous notes of woe,
Sadder than the owl songs or the midnight blast,
Is that portentous phrase, "I told you so."
~ Lord Byron

#3-I can so relate. I turned 50 this year and am pretty sure I should have this figured out by now. I think up til now my life has kind of unfolded and I haven't had that much control over the where, when, what...suddenly with an empty nest it's all up to me. And I flounder.

Glad you joined the HP today!

I love, love that quote!!! I will have to use it on my husband hehe. I never went to summer camp either. I also love camping. We have not been in so long. Hope we can go when the boys get a little bit bigger.

I think my favorite lemonades are the berry ones. Strawberry or Raspberry! YUM!

I had some of the cheap-o babysitting jobs when I was young and too stupid to know I was really being underpaid! Oh well....I bet she didn't know I was tasting about everything in her refrigerator when I was there either ;-)

Joyce...pushing 50 and looking at an empty nest is where I am too. Been a mom for so long I'm not sure what to do with myself.

Rochelle...it's a good quote, hope your husband appreciates it. ;)

Beth...my favorite is blueberry lemonade.

Donna...LOL! These people never had anything worth munching on.

Amy...dogs are just the greatest, aren't they? All that unconditional love. :)

I love camping, I've even gone by myself.

My son is more of a Holiday Inn camper, and my husband has never gone camping, so I fear that my days of roughing it are over.

And I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
