Fraggly Friday

Mommy's Idea

Yea!  It's Friday!  Hallelujah!  TGIF!  Do you think I might be a little glad the week is over?  Well, thanks to Mrs. 4444 and her Friday Fragments, I've got a format to share all those little things from the week.  You can shoot on over to her site if you'd like to join in the fun or just want to read some more Fragments.

Skype still doesn't impress me much.  In fact, I'm not much of a technology fan at all this week.  Maybe if it ever worked the way it's supposed to....  The "bigger" of my seminary classes has students in four locations all linking up via Skype.  The first week we could hear everyone, but not see them.  Last week, we had the pictures, but the sound was so awful we called the teacher on the phone and kept it on speaker the whole time.  Last night we had picture and the sound was okay about half the time.  Every minute or so whoever was speaking was drowned out by what sounded like a toilet flushing right beside the microphone.  We missed out on a lot of what was said, I think, and one person in our class ended up with a horrible headache from listening to it.  I'm still feeling lost and I have a big paper due on Thursday about the Triune God.  Is there a harder topic in all of Christianity to explain than The Trinity?  I don't think so.  Sigh.

My other issue with technology this week has more to do with the evil geniuses who find ways to mess it up for the rest of us than with the actual technology.  My second seminary class is online, which basically means only that everything is done through The University of Findlay's website.  All emails, assignments, documents, etc. are run through the site.  It would be great except that all the files are in PDF form and I can't open any of them.  I spent time working on it yesterday.  I've worked on it today.  I sent an email to the teacher and he emailed me my own private links...still PDF's though.  And still nothing.  I think there's a virus or some sort of corruption in my Adobe Reader.  I've done all the trouble shooting and everything it says to do, but it hasn't worked and it keeps telling me Adobe is already running.....if it is, I have no idea where.  I have two readings to get done and a paper due tomorrow.  I don't see how that's going to happen.

We're still trying to play the catch up game on bills and I'm sure you've all been there a time or two.  It's just stressful and sucky.

I'm president of our town's civic club this year.  I don't want to be.  When I agreed last Spring it was because absolutely no one else would take it on, I wasn't in classes, several people promised to help me all they could, and I am about the only member who doesn't have one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banana peel.  Okay, it's not that bad, but I am the youngest member by 20 years.

I joined the club a few years ago because I liked the idea of being part of a group that gives to the community.  Unfortunately, what I've learned is the reality is this:  one $150 scholarship is given to the top debater at the high school each year.  When a member dies, a book is donated to the library in her name.  That's pretty much it.  There is money in the bank, though they are always carrying on about having no money.  There is one fundraiser a year, which only happened because another lady and I did all the work last year.  Mostly, the ladies like to have meetings and dinners for themselves.

I hope to change the whole shooting match, but don't know if I can.

And last, but not least, how's this for.....awkward?

The new mechanic at work.  The one who's 23.  The one who I've had my eye on as a potential future boyfriend for Megan if she's ever single again.

Um...I think he might like me.

We talk a lot.  He's a nice guy.  I don't seek him out, but he seems to go out of his way to find me.  He's always asking me about my weekend plans and now that he knows I'm taking classes he asks about that.  I didn't really think much about it.  Then this morning as I was leaving the office he was in the doorway and as I passed he put his hand on my back and walked out with me.  After we were out he leaned over and told me I smelled good.

Awkward.
(Even if I wasn't married, I'd make a terrible Cougar.  LOL)

I think it's cool that you are volunteering in the community. You will totally make a difference and they probably need a little shake up. Maybe you can recruit some younger members. Loving that the younger man thinks you are hot!!!!

Well I discovered you today by accident (or design? hmmm) You gave me a smile....especially with the awkward moment! I am Modern Day Disciple at Beneath The Surface: Breath of Faith (phew) that takes a breath or two to say.

I've used Skype a few times, but it's always spotty. There are lots of other programs that work so much better that it seems a class situation would use a better, more reliable format. Can you open the PDFs through OpenOffice.org? or through Google Documents?
