A Hodgepodge Worth 1000 Words

Well, here's a comment on the state of my brain right now.  I totally forgot it was time for Hodgepodge Wednesday with Mrs. 4444.  So, here a bit late, is this week's edition.

1. What is one piece of advice you would give a 'just-turning' 21 year old adult?
~ Life isn't as long as you think and it's not guaranteed.  Don't put off the important things to party all the time.  Spend time with God and listen to what He says as well as what the people He sends your way have to say.  Believe it or not, you don't have all the answers.

2. Besides cooler weather (or warmer weather, depending on your hemisphere) what is one thing you are looking forward to this fall?
~ I love, love, LOVE fall!  I can't wait for shorter days because the family is kind of forced into cozy evenings.  I like curling up under a throw by the pellet stove with a good book and a cup of peppermint tea.  I love hunting for the right pumpkins and biting into a crisp, tart apple.  I like leaves crunching under my feet and dark, spooky corn mazes.  I like yellow, orange and red leaves set against an amazingly blue sky.  I like the excited air of a high school football game and the easy going peace of Thanksgiving.  Should I stop now??

3. What sound lulls you to sleep?
~ At home we run the fan all the time.  I need that white noise to fall asleep.  I also tend to fall asleep in the car if I'm not driving.  It's the drone of the tires on the pavement, I think.

4. September is National Preparedness Month...does your family have an emergency 'kit' and/or disaster plan in place?
~ Hahahaha....oh, you're serious?  No.  We probably should, though, since we now also experience earthquakes along with tornadoes and other killer storms.  And if 9-11 taught us anything it should be that "it can happen any time, any place."

5. How has your blog changed since you started blogging? Or has it?
~ My very first blog was back in 2001, I think.  Blogs were very basic and plain back then.  We've come a long way.  It was a faith-oriented blog because I was up to my eyeballs in youth ministry at the time.  I moved away from that over the years, but now am slowly taking this blog back in that direction, but I still think there is room for fun like this meme. :)

6. What's something you've recently learned to do on the computer?
~ I honestly can't think of anything new.  I wish I could figure out how to get the music I've downloaded from eMusic and iTunes from the computer to my iPod, but so far it's not happening.
7. Is a picture worth a thousand words? Elaborate.
~ Probably, but I'm a word person.  I studied English and Journalism.  I've always got something to write about a picture, but there are a few that stand alone in my mind.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
~ In keeping with my earlier post about letting go and trusting God to take care of things....I'm being given that chance.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.  God uses everything to His purposes.

I finally had time to call the seminary resgistrar this morning during business hours.  She told me several things that have me, on my own, wanting to run screaming from the room....
  1. According to her, I need to be enrolled in a second class.  It is the basics for new students.  It also teaches the elements of the preferred method (read, mandatory) of writing a term paper.  So I'm going to be learning how to do it while I'm supposed to be already doing it.
  2. I should have already had my books and everything for the class beginning tomorrow.  I'm going to be behind right from the start.
  3. She sent me the sylabis for the two courses.  The work is daunting to say the least.  I have no idea how I will find the time.
So, that's where God comes in, because I can tell you right now that I can't do this myself.  If God's not there to hold me up it's not going to happen.

Hi!
I also need a fan to sleep. Your pictures of 1,000 words are awesome. They say so much. Have a great day!

Those are great examples of pictures that are worth 1,000 words. We use a sound machine with white noise. Can't believe you blogged in 2001! Why didn't I know about it then?

Wow, good luck with seminary. That sounds scary and exciting all at the same time. I'm sure you'll figure out a routine once you get going.

I am not a fan of Salinger, but there is a line in Catcher in the Rye that has stuck with me since HS. Something about wishing people luck means they don't have the skills to succeed. You have those skills. Luck has nothing to do with it. You'll do it, and you'll do it well. Just keep leaning on Him for help; He will see you through. In that way we never do things on our own, we use the gifts He has given us!
