Wondering If It's Time to Quit Blogging

Just not feeling the love these days and wondering if this is all worth it.  Not the best attitude to have about blogging a month before you're set to go to a convention for bloggers.  (Beth, it has NOTHING to do with meeting you.  I am really excited about that and looking forward to it!)

No, it's the blog I'm wondering about.  I haven't had time to post about the things I'd like to, but I'm wondering if it would matter if I did.  Nobody seems all that interested in visiting these days....even when I join in the memes or bloghops.

My readership dropped dramatically when I first closed down my old blog and started this one.  Apparently, people love misery and when I stopped writing about all the garbage my family was going through....interest dried up.  Sorry, people.  My life can't be crap all the time.  There are the occasional good spells and for the most part, all the drama has gone away.  Which for me, who had to live through it, is a VERY GOOD thing.

Then I decided to stop hiding my Christianity and started sharing more about that in posts...not that I've turned this into a blog strictly about religion or faith.  Yet, once again, quite a few "friends" disappeared.

Now I just don't know what the problem is, but it seems like even my regular readers aren't coming around.  It's hard to stay motivated when nobody's reading.  I know everyone is busy this time of year, but I also know that most bloggers make time to read the blogs they're interested in and care about.  So....the message I'm getting is that my blog just isn't worth your time.

That leaves me thinking maybe I should take a break or quit.  I could channel all this time and effort into something else.  Like school.

I love blogging.  I've been doing it since 2001, but there's no point in beating a dead horse...if it is indeed dead.

Input?

You blog a lot. You write long posts, and I will will admit, I ALWAYS check in, but I don't read every word.

So maybe, just maybe blog a little less?

I'm not a huge fan of memes, I tend to be more interested when you write about you--the happy you is okay! The hardworking you is okay! The Christian you is beyond okay!

(I get fewer comments when I write about God stuff, too.)

Take a break for week. It's okay. See if you miss it.

The thought of going to a blog convention has never crossed my mind, I have to say I just don't get it. But this is not my life's work. Truth? I've never gone to a teacher's convention, if there is such a thing, either!

Hugs!

Ellen...Short posts? Moi?? English/writing/journalism...are all in my blood. The memes you can skip. Some of them I do for fun, but some I do to try and make new friends. They're a good way to meet other bloggers. I've found some of my bestest blog friends that way. :)

Seamh & Carrie B....Well, hello and welcome! I didn't know you were here. It's nice to know someone's reading. :) Don't worry...I'm probably not going anywhere. I've tried to quit several times since I started 10 years ago and I ALWAYS end up coming back so I may as well admit I'm here to stay.

Rochelle...Thank you. I love YOU :)

I was a journalism major too, and I was always taught to keep it under three hundred words. It's the memes I tend to skim, but I do understand why you do them.

I'll keep my mouth shut.

Concise and to the point was the rule for reporting, people want the news in the first two paragraphs (or less). I don't remember any hard and fast rules for the length of anything else I wrote.

Now where's the fun in keeping your mouth shut? ;)

I am pretty new here so I don't know the history you have been through or blogged about. I am sorry you are having this doubt about your blog. ((HUGS)) It may just be that people are getting burned out. Not by you or your posts but just blogging in general.
I follow so many that I can be here reading posts for 8 hours everyday! I find I am reading less so I am not visiting people like I use to. I feel I need to live life and not be here all day long.

I am among the guilty of not being here much lately. I am also one of your biggest fans and I would be devastated if you quit! Please keep on keeping on! Readers ebb and flow ... we have to blog mostly for ourselves I think!

Love you!
