Friday Fraggin'

Mommy's Idea

It's time for Friday Fragments again...the brainchild of Mrs. 4444 (pronounced "fours" not four-four-four-four) over at Half-Past Kissin' Time.  Mrs. 4444 was clever enough to realize we bloggers have a lot of material cluttering up the place, but no where to put it because a lot of it's just too little to be out there in the blogosphere all alone.  Friday Fragments is where we round 'em all up in one place and toss them out for your reading pleasure.

First off, let's get the 30 Days of Thankfulness taken care of.  Today is Day 18.  I seriously can't believe how fast this month is flying by!  Today I am thankful because I have two papers due today for my Spiritual Formation class.....and I finished and sent both off to the teacher YESTERDAY!  Wooo-hoooo!

So, the heat is off just a bit today where school is concerned, but there is no real rest for the wicked.  At least not until December 8.  The class only meets one more time on December 1, but we have until the 8th to finish our work.  In the next three weeks, all I have to do is....read two books, prepare a 10 minute devotion on Psalm 90, write three papers, and give a sermon.

Yes, I said "give a sermon."  While I am not feeling in any way called to be a preacher, presenting my final paper as a sermon is a class assignment.  I am not a public speaker.  I hate it.  I stink at it...getting all tongue-tied, nervous, and anxious.  I end up blathering and saying stupid stuff.  I'm going to have a stroke thinking about this.

We are going out to dinner tonight for our anniversary, probably to LongHorn Steakhouse because we both love a good steak and because it is close to the mall and Barnes & Noble.  One of the books I still have to read for class is to be chosen from a list of 10 or so.  I need to go look at as many of them as I can and pick one.

If Tim doesn't have to work tomorrow, I'm going to try and talk him into going to Pittsburgh's Strip District (the market district) to look around and maybe buy fresh shrimp.  I love the atmosphere down there and enjoy walking around even if we don't buy anything.

Megan got a job.  Sort of.  A guy in the neighborhood is paying her $20 per day to come down in the mornings and get his two younger kids up and on the bus.  It takes her maybe an hour and a half.  I'd like her to find more of a job than that, but she insists that if Cody gets a factory job they'll be fine.  Um...great, but one, why should Cody have to pay her way when they aren't married, living together or anything like that and two, so far none of the places he's applied to have called him back.

Meanwhile....the cute, young mechanic I work with (and wish had come along when Meg was single so I could hook them up) continues to single-handedly restore my faith in the younger generation.  He's helping Tim do something to the truck so he followed me home last week and had dinner with us.  He is polite, sweet, helpful, neat, considerate, has a full-time job, and at 23 has his act together enough to have saved up more than enough for a down-payment on a house (which when he finds, he says he's having us over for dinner...so he COOKS, too).  His goal in life seems to be finding the right place and finding the right girl to settle down and share it with.  And did I mention how cute he is?

Sheeesh, I don't know what's wrong with the girls around here.  He is a keeper.  If I was 25 years younger and not married I'd be after him.

We haven't been able to get an answer out of our son about what he and his family are doing for Thanksgiving so Mom and I decided to cook.  Just in case.  We had talked about going to a buffet.  We know what we're having but not where we'll be.  Mom and her husband still have both of their houses and divide time between the two, though they're no more than 10 miles apart.  It will be at one or the other.  It will just be the four of us and maybe Megan and Cody as it stands, but those two are up in the air, too.

Well, it is Friday and that means back to work early so I'll have to wrap this up.  I hope you all have wonderful weekends!

Brad is trying to get his family to start thinking about a December visit. It takes them a while to agree to a date, sort of get the feeling that they worry they don't want to commit in case something better comes along.

Sometimes I want to shake them and remind them by the time I was their age, my mom had died. So how about not pushing Dad to the back burner?

Longhorn Steakhouse sounds so good to me. It's been a long time since I had steak! I'm so glad I'm out of school and don't have dumb assignments I have to do anymore! Good luck on that sermon!

I love shrimp. My husband doesn't so I never really get to eat it at home. If you do get some, enjoy a little extra for me.

Practice your sermon backwards and forward and believe that you will be great. Everyone wants you to succeed. Everyone is rooting for you to do well.

I get really anxious and nervous anytime I have to say or do anything in front of an audience too. It just goes against my nature to like to fade into the background.
I hope it goes well for you.

I'm also cooking for Thanksgiving. I hope I don't mess anything up.
