Off and Running

I'm in the home stretch now.  Woo-oo-hoo!  Just nine more days to suffer work through and I'll be making friends with Summer.  Of course, that's assuming Summer actually shows up for the party.  I'm beginning to wonder.

The weekend was nice (including the weather!).

Friday night we went to a dinner/pre-wedding reception for a couple from church.  They are getting married next month in Hawaii (I think I hate them) and since none of us will be there we had a bit of a party.  Everyone wore tropical themed clothing and I got lei's for everyone and decorated the tables with hibiscus cutouts, parrots and pineapples.  If you wanted to see the couple kiss you had to hula hoop instead of tapping on a glass with your spoon.  We wrote them a poem...I gave the first line and everyone had to add a line.  I had cutouts of a surfer and a hula girl that I took pictures of everyone in and I adapted a Hawaiian myth to do the lefty/righty game and we passed a can of pineapple (I had an emergency at home and didn't get to stop at the store for a real one).  It was a ball and the couple was so shocked and tickled that we'd do this for them.

I spent Saturday putzing around the house, cleaning and making a casserole for church.  Just about the time I was going to leave for church the kids asked what friends of ours were doing here.  I thought they were joking around, but no....our friends were indeed here.  They'd had their grandson in town to get pictures taken and stopped to show him off.  He's such a chubby little cutie, only 9 months old and he's already letting go of the furniture and taking a couple of steps.  Anyway, I couldn't shoo them off so I ended up missing church.  Tim got home right after they arrived so we visited for a while until they had to go then Tim and I went to Lowe's for a battery for the John Deere.  We ran into a bunch of people from church there.  We stopped for ice cream on the way home.

Yesterday we got up early and got to work on the yard so it'd be done before our son and granddaughter got here.  We cooked chicken and pork chops on the grill and had corn-on-the-cob and baked beans.  Our granddaughter is such a precocious little thing.  Some things she is a normal 2-year-old about, but others it's like dealing with a 40-year-old.  She has the orneriest sense of humor (can't imagine where she might have gotten that) and loves to play tricks.  It was so nice to have them here for a few hours.

Well, I need to walk away from this time-sucking leech of a machine and get at the things that need doing since I have a shorter time to get them done in.  Early dismissals for the private school I also drive for all week.

I'd love to see you Hula anything Stacy, lol...What a fun wedding it sounds like and my brother is a high school English teacher and he counts down the days to Summer probably more than half the kids, so I understand your excitement!

I wasn't anticipating a post from you today so this was a treat! I'm so glad the Hawaiian party went well. It sounds like a lot of fun! There are a LOT of ways to worship and most of them do not involve being in a church building! You did what was most important! Enjoy these last few days, girlie!

Your pre-reception sounds like a blast.

I know the anticipation of the last few days of school. This time of year usually found me exhausted.
