Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Once again it's time for Friday Fragments.  I can't believe how fast this week has gone by.  Actually, I can't believe how fast this month is going by.  More than half of June is gone.  My summer vacation is evaporating!  Ack!  Come back!

In thinking of the time flying by, I realized I haven't gone to take my driving test yet.  My boss is going to be calling to nag at me soon.  Drivers with CDL licenses have to be recertified every four years.  That means while the rest of the world passes their driving test once and drives till they are old, feeble, senile and someone pries their license out of their clutching fingers....CDL drivers must put in classroom time, road time and retake both the "written" (it's on computer in PA) and road test.  EVERY.  FOUR.  YEARS.  I have the classroom time in, but have to take the test and put in the road time.  I'm dragging my feet.  I don't know why, other than it's just a pain in the behind.  I also have to get a physical...something CDL drivers must do every year.

I haven't really been able to enjoy my new fish pond yet.  The weather's been kinda cool and wet, but it's also that the water's still terribly cloudy.  I can't even see my fishies unless they come up to the top and anti-social creatures that they are, they're sticking to the bottom.  Stupid fish.

I've decided to try and cook my way through The Pioneer Woman's cookbook this summer.  The recipes are definitely comfort food and NOT diet (or heart) friendly, but they are sooooo good and the couple I've tried out on the family already have met with rave reviews.  I'm only thinking to make something 2 or 3 times a week so if I watch portions it shouldn't do too much damage.

My book blog gained another follower yesterday.  It's up to four, woot!  Given how many book lovers are out there I thought it would take off a little quicker, but I'm sticking with it because it's an effort of love.  Books are my passion.  In fact, I'm wondering why I never did a book blog before?  (I don't know.)  I'm also wondering if maybe, at some point in the future, it might not be a good thing to combine this blog and the book blog into one.

I am loving this song.  It's so perfect for summer.

I have to go to Tim's aunt's today.  At some point (not getting straight answers from anyone) the insurance adjuster and contractor are meeting to look at her roof and she's asked me to be there.  It's good to have someone there because....how should I put this?....her elevator doesn't really go all the way to the penthouse any more.  I just wish I wasn't the one being there.  I'm only a relative by marriage and there is a whole slew of heirs (she is loaded) out there who think they know what's best for her (they just don't bother with her because she is a royal pain in the you-know-what with all her demands on a person's time).  If she gets a new roof, I am waiting for the proverbial poo to hit the fan and everyone to be mad at me (Her phone conked out a couple years ago and Tim and I took her to Walmart for a new one.  She spent all of $40.  One of the heirs said it was ridiculous...returned it, fished the old one out of the trash and had it repaired....cost more than the new phone.).  All I can say is if they're worried about it, they are more than welcome to take my place today!

You might want to watch out if you are on the roads around here today.  Tim left me the pickup so I can pick up the mulch that Megan and Cody still need to spread for me.  I drove it home from the dealership the night we bought it, but haven't driven it since and I have never backed the thing up.  It's an oceanliner on wheels.  If you'll recall it's a Super Duty F250 with an extended cab, twin turbo diesel engine, and the 8ft. (rather than 6ft.) bed Tim insists a truck must have.  Yeah, I know I drive a bus, but it's different!  I have to get used to it.  Thank goodness it has a back up alarm that beeps when you get close to something.

Tomorrow is the preview day for the library's used book sale.  It's one of the highlights of my summer.  How sad is that?  The actual sale is next Monday through Thursday.  Tomorrow you can pay $5 to get in and have first shot at the books...$1 for hardcover and 50 cents for paperback.  Next Thursday you can get as many books as you can stuff in a bag for $1.  Yeah, I'll be going back for that, too.

Well, off to have breakfast and get dressed for the day.  Have yourselves a wonderful Friday!

I have to re-up my teaching cert. I cannot tell you how "head in the sand" I've been about that. So much paperwork I don't know where to start.

As for your book blog, there are soooo many out there, I had a kids one last summer, give it time to grow!

Off to WalMart for more Robitussin. I got a gift card from one of my kids for an end of year gift, bet she never thought I'd use it for cough suppressant!

You're blog is so cute! Definitely makes it feel like summer. :)

Have you seen The Voice!? If you love Blake, you've gotta watch it. He's awesome! {Though I'm still mad at him for getting rid of the boys...}

Have a great weekend!

Ellie...procrastinators of the world unite! You'd think we'd be more ambitious about such important stuff, though, wouldn't you?

Tee...love his music...on the fence about him. He's growing on me. My cousin was one of the writers on Hillbilly Bone...probably others, but I don't keep up.

Brandi...Thanks for the compliment and the visit! I haven't seen The Voice. I want to but keep forgetting.

My mom LOVES the library book sale near her too! Honestly blogging has overtaken my love of reading. Just not enough hours in the day for both! I like the freedom to take my Nook on the road but I don't want any more actual books. Just one more thing cluttering up the house. I know ... heresy!

If you check out the guest post by Molly on my blog last week, she hosts a women's book blog club. If you're interested, you can hook up with her, as she is always looking to meet new ladies interested in books.

Beth...the library sale is a great way to pick up gently used books on the cheap. Our sale is mostly donated by library supporters...very few books actually were in the library. My Nook is good for on the go, but mostly I use it to filter books. If I know I don't want a book in my permanent collection or I'm not sure...into the Nook it goes.

Matty...Thanks for visiting and thanks for the tip! I will be sure to check out the post by Molly.

I'll check out your book blog. I'm looking for stuff to read. And I'm going to a book sale today -- mostly kids/teen books. But it's $1 paperback, $2 hardback. How can I resist?

Don't know how you could drive a bus or a big truck. We had a Tahoe once and I felt like it was just too big for me.

Amy....How did you do at your book sale? I posted a list of what I got over on my book blog. I think I'm set for the summer.

I LOVE driving so that probably has something to do with being okay behind the wheel of something big. The other part is I like the feeling of all that power (insert Tim Allen man-grunt here).
