Black Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Friday Fragments are brought to you courtesy of Mrs. 4444 over at Half-past Kissin' Time.
It's a chance for us bloggers to share all the little things going on in life...
or maybe the not so little things that just don't require a whole post to share.
It's a blog hop and a fun way to meet new people so if you'd like to
join in, hop on over to Mrs. 4444's blog and sign up.

First things first.  I am, obviously, NOT out there doing any Black Friday shopping.
Call me a wimp if you must, but I'd rather drink hot sauce with a mouth full of ulcers.
I'm content here at home surrounded by mountains of boxes containing all of
our Christmas decorations.  I'm slowly unpacking and decorating, but I'm also
taking breaks to read or watch a movie or listen to the Christmas CD's....which it is
now the appropriate time to get out.  Hey, nobody's helping me so I can do it however
and whenever I want.

The little old-fashioned movie theater in the town where I drive the school bus
is showing "Courageous" this weekend.  How cool is that?  They show mostly mainstream
movies, but also artsy-fartsy ones and quite often they use the stage for plays.  I'm
loving that they're showing a Christian film.  It depends on Tim....if he isn't too tired
(he's working today and tomorrow), I'm hoping we can go see it.  I've heard such
good things.  It doesn't hurt that we can also get two admissions, a large popcorn,
two drinks, and a box of candy for under $20!  I love that.  It's even cheaper than
the matinee at the mall theaters.

I fibbed about being able to do the decorating whenever I want to.  Sort of.  I can do it
whenever I want as long as it's done today.  I really need to spend tomorrow, Sunday and
Monday working on my last assignments for school....especially since the big paper is
due to be delivered as a sermon next Saturday evening.  That scares the living daylights out
of me so I've been procrastinating.  I do my best work under pressure, but oi vey, the stress!

Speaking of school....my Spiritual Formation teacher sent me an email yesterday.
He wished me a Happy Thanksgiving, then went on to say,

I also wanted to let you know what a joy it has been to get better acquainted with you through our class this Fall.
I have very much appreciated the thoughts you have shared, both in class and in your writing.
I have no doubt that the Lord has some special ministry plans in store for you!  Have no fear!!!

I have made it through the journals and prayer ministry papers, but still have the retreat papers to grade.
But I wanted to let you know that at this point, your grade is an A, and I have no doubt you'll complete this class with the same intensity you've demonstrated thus far.

How cool is that?

Our son still hasn't passed the kidney stone that sent him to the emergency room
last Friday and he is in a good bit of discomfort, if not pain.  Tim and I both encouraged
him to call the doctor today rather than wait for the scheduled follow up appointment.
With as much as he drinks and the meds they gave him to help things along...
it should have passed by now if it was going to.  If he lets it go too long he
could end up with an infection and have even bigger problems.

Okay, I think I have to declare "Break Over."  I need to grab something quick for
lunch and get back to work on these decorations.  Sigh.  I kind of miss the old
days when the kids got excited about decorating and loved to help.  Megan
is excited about the house being decorated....but she's not here to help.

Enjoy your Black Friday shopping if you're crazy enough to be out there and the rest
of this long weekend that kicks off the Christmas season.
Get your fa-la-la on girls!

Dear Teacher's Pet,

I do not go black Friday shopping either.

I would love to see Courageous. Over my break I saw Tower Heist and the Muppet movie, the first being more fun but full of cuss words than the second.

You have school work, and so do I. Mine is going to be done over at school on Saturday or Sunday having done all that I can do here (on Wednesday).

Happy Holidays (generic now because it's not Christmas!)

Sounds like a good day. No shopping for me other then online!
I forgot I wanted to see that movie. Hope you get to see it. Praying for your son, I hear those are the worst.

I haven't heard of "Courageous", but what a bargain!

Hope your son gets through that kidney stone quickly and painlessly!

Oh, dear; I hope the stone disappears or something soon!

I haven't started decorating for Christmas yet; I really don't enjoy it, for some reason. I wonder if I could talk my husband into at least doing the lights on the tree this year.

What a great note from your teacher--I'm happy for you, as well as for your parish :)

Hope you got to go to the movie; that's a great deal to pass up!

Ellen...Courageous was very good! I'd like to see the Muppet Movie, but will probably have to wait for the DVD. I can't see Tim paying to see it.

Debby...thanks for the prayers.

Shopannies...school is a whole different game when you're grown and have a family, isn't it.

Mary...I recommend the movie. It was very good. Just take some tissues with you. It's a tear-jerker.

qandlequeen...thank you.

Mrs. Forsberg...my husband is a no-show for decorating. He brings in the boxes for me and then disappears. It wouldn't bother him at all if I skipped decorating. My daughter and her boyfriend did end up helping last night so that was nice.
