One Word

Rough hands can be gentle.
I've been reading all over the place about choosing one word to focus on this year.  I had thought about jumping on the bandwagon and dismissed the idea.  Another thing to do is something I just don't need.

Then it came to me that the right word could simply go along with, support, and possibly flow out from the resolutions I've already made.

When I put my mind to it, it really didn't take long to come to a word.  The word.  My word for the year.

Gentleness.

Gentleness is so much more than a soft touch.  It is patience, love, encouragement, soft-spoken-ness, thoughtfulness in deed and word, service....and so much, much more.  It's key to being a Titus 2 woman.

Confession time.  I am not a gentle woman.  Though I can be quiet, my manner runs more toward what I imagine the "Sons of Thunder" were like.  Brash.  Impulsive.  Shooting off their mouths without thinking.  Critical of others.  Quick to judge.  I know this in my heart.  I know it because my daughter tells me so.  And lately  (this one really hurts) I know it because even my husband tells me so.

Gentleness.  The word and goal for the year.

What is your word?

Continuing to count blessings:

66.  The pale lavender and blue of a snowy morning.

67.  Words...that craft a story, comfort a friend, soothe a child, make us laugh.

68.  The hum of a furnace keeping us warm.

69.  Remembering the good in a tragic life cut short.

70.  Flags snapping smartly in the wind.

71.  Roads not nearly as icy as expected.

Happy New Year, Stacy! Good Word. Gentleness. We have lots in common. I am also not so gentle and that was one of my prayers early in my marriage. The journey sometimes feels slow. But at least it is a fruit of the Spirit. God will grow it in you! A good fruit for the New Year!

Your word is wonderful. I drove to bowling today thinking about a word all the way. I have several that I like but I'm thinking ~passion~. Meaning that I would do all things this year with passion in my heart.

Dawn, thanks. I've been enjoying your blog...even though I'm a bad "creeper" and don't always comment, I am reading. Gentleness comes and goes with me. Impatience is a problem and I am working on it.

Ellen....Is that your word? Or advice? Either way...

Debby...passion is very good!

wow a word - that is a hard one to really think about - but I think gratitude is possibly mine at first thought, because I am grateful to work with the seniors, grateful to work with others helping, grateful to my husband for his providing and support, grateful to my daughters, etc, but when I am grateful do they see it or am I harsh, sarcastic etc I need to be truly grateful so they realize that I am so blessed and know I am blessed to have them in or touch my life - so right now it is grateful

Grateful is an excellent choice! If you haven't read Ann Voskamp's "One Thousand Gifts" I highly recommend it.
