Bringing Back the Simple Woman's Daybook

Good morning!  Are you up bright and early on this first day of daylight savings time?  I am, having bounded out of bed thinking it was already 8:00...only to realize the bedroom clock is one of those that adjusts for DST on its own.  D'oh.

Sorry I didn't get to do a Saturday Share post yesterday, which, by the way I am going to rename Saturday Sampler.  It was a busy day and I just didn't have the time until later last night so I skipped it this week.

Today I've decided to revisit The Simple Woman's Daybook, a feature I used to do every Sunday but got away from.  I always liked doing it and enjoyed the "feel" of it.  I discovered that the community has been revamped so I'll be joining in.  I believe they link up once a month, but you can expect to find posts every Sunday on here.

For Today...

Outside my window...It's still looking rather gray at 8:30 on this first day of daylight savings time, but a single ray of light coming in the kitchen window hints that the sun is coming.  Grayness, aside, it is warm for March and the birds are deafening in their greeting of the day.

I am thinking...about things taught and discussed at church last night.  A trip to Tennessee in July for training as a Precepts teacher.  Mentoring on how to develop a message.  Laughter and joy shared with friends.

I am thankful for...quiet Sunday mornings with my husband....TV, Sunday paper, sleeping dogs, and nowhere to be.

I am wearing...I'm still in my jammies and my super comfy fleecy robe.

I am remembering...long ago Sunday mornings when my kids were young and we'd all pile up in our bed with the Sunday paper to read and cuddle and watch TV.  It seems like a lifetime ago.

I am going...to get caught up on clipping and organizing coupons today and then pay bills.

I am currently reading...The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I am hoping...that someday my son realizes I didn't do what he accused me of and wants a relationship with me again and that in her depression and anger, my daughter doesn't decide to walk away.

On my mind...our summer vacation.  We haven't been on one in years again, but are going to our favorite place, Chincoteague Island, VA for a week in July.  We will be there for Pony Penning Days for the first time and I'm very excited!  Now is the time I'm scouting on line to find the other things we want to do and make reservations.....fishing excursions and other boat trips.

Noticing that...it isn't just my kids and my relationship with them.  I know so many people who are struggling or estranged from their adult children.  What happened to this generation that they so easily walk away from their families?

Pondering these words...from yesterday's Bible study on Jesus.  Breathe in truth (truth being the Word), breathe out truth, breathe in truth, breathe out truth, breathe in truth, breathe out truth....and in the breathing we are living truth.

In the kitchen...jobs waiting to be done....a pile of dirty dishes, clutter on the table and island.

Around the house...so many jobs need done.  Tim has had no time or energy to work on any of the projects or things that need fixing around here because of how much time he's been putting into redoing the church building.  Hoping that job is done by summer and he can turn his attention to home, but summer is usually when he gets super busy at work.

One of my favorite things...laughing with friends.

A picture...

A happy day and four generations.

Oh, I love this! I always wanted to do the Daybook. Maybe I will link. It might be similar to my Monday post so maybe I can combine...Love the picture and the fact that we have the same unfinished business( dirty dishes etc.)

Did you get my e-mail? Hope it didn't sound too crazy, sometimes I communicate as though others can read my crazy mind.

I have The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks on my list of books I want to read.

Sorry about the situations with your son and daughter. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Here’s My Post

I used to do this. I enjoyed reading about your day. I suspect that our children's ability to just walk away has a lot to do with their *me* mentality. I don't think it was simply bad parenting. A whole culture messed them up and we somehow didn't catch it in time to rescue them. Whatever caused it ... it's heartbreaking!
