Somethin' About a Pickup Man

Tim needed a new truck.  I mean really needed a new truck.  He puts a lot of miles on his vehicle just getting to and from job sites.  100 miles a day is probably a reasonable average.  No matter how much maintenance you do that much wear and tear takes a toll.  Things start to fall apart and it just keeps escalating and being a constant drain on the wallet.  That's where we were.  We'd hoped (or maybe just I hoped) to keep the truck going until summer.  Tim started looking at trucks.

A used truck wouldn't really do, not with the miles he puts on.  The last truck proved that point all too well.  A new truck comes with a ridiculous price.  We have a few large bills right now that will ease come summer and the thought of another big payment doesn't sit well.  Not that my opinion carries a lot of weight when it comes to truck shopping.

Bottom line?  Tim found a truck he loves.  It is a used 2008 Ford F250 turbo diesel, but it only has 25,000 miles on it and it still had some factory warranty left which we extended.  It's a lot of truck.  It came with a huge price tag.  Signing all those papers made me feel sick.  I hate being in debt and until that big bill I mentioned is paid off this summer it is going to be tight.  Very, very tight.  Frugality and saving money is going to have to become the name of the game.  I'm okay with that as it's the way I grew up, but Tim has never been on board with that and Megan definitely is not into that lifestyle.  Oh well, it is what it is.  I will do the best I can and try to guide them in the right direction as much as they'll allow me.

This isn't the actual truck, but it's close.  Real close.

Global Warming was misnamed. They should have called it Global Climate change. Few people could look at the current weather forecast and argue convincingly that weather patterns aren't changing.

Amoeba is a natural scientist and he says it is a fact that the amount of carbon humans pump into the air is changing a good many things in this world, including the weather. However, no one can accurately predict what that change will bring. He also says the weather is probably the least of our worries. We need to concider4 our air quality, water pollution, and the fact that a major food shortage is looming on the horizon.

Amoeba's thinking is much closer to my own than the global warming Chicken Little's.

Wow! I'm now terrified!! We are more alike that I thought! I was right there with each of your answers!

We also had a car die on us (actually, it is on life support right now) and had to bite and buy another one.

Really liked your answers, and love your blog! Hope you don't mind me following!

I'd have to agree with you on the internet. And for that matter, almost every answer. (Even we bleeding hearts can be somewhat reasonable...) Good luck with the truck!

Excellent answers, Stacy! Loved all of them ... especially the last one!

I'm with you on the debt, being tired of it, struggling to live with it, and the need for new vehicles too! Bert is going to have to have a new truck SOON (he owns a pest control company and puts a LOT of miles on his vehicle daily)! We really can't afford it but what can you do ... it's a tool he needs for work! Sigh!

Bud....I've got nothing against bleeding hearts. Some of my best friends are bleeding hearts. It's the crazies on both sides that get to me.

Beth....thanks. It was the same for us with the truck. Tim HAD to have it for work. I'm still not really comfortable with it, but I'm going to have to trust God will make things work out. Not much else I can do.
