30 Day Challenge, Day 14: Through the Looking Glass

Today's challenge is to post a picture of myself from last year and tell how I've changed from then to now.

For starters I'd have to say I'm a lot happier than I was last year and there are a lot of reasons for that.

First of all, I've gotten back down to business in my relationship with God.  We started going to a church again last Spring for the first time since everything went kaflooey at our previous church....a span of at least five years!  I'm back to attending church, going to Bible study, and am even looking into taking some ministry classes through the seminary...a dream I'd given up a long time ago.  That said, I'm sure you've noticed the tone of my blog has been changing and evolving, too.

Another reason for my increased happiness is the changes in Megan.  She is doing so well with the Zoloft and is making a life here.  She is happy and busy and the way she responds to me has done a 180.  She just bopped out of here with an "I love you!"  Not so long ago I never thought I'd hear that from her.

My relationship with my daughter-in-law has improved greatly as well.  I accept that we will never be great friends, our views are just too polarized for that, but we have found middle ground and manage to get along and even have conversations.  We just totally avoid the touchy areas.

Lastly, for the most part, the hormonal roller coaster seems to have pulled into the station for the time being and my emotions are not getting the best of me.  Thank goodness!  I spend at least six months bawling about everything and then several months just being angry.  I don't miss that!

Other differences:
  • I haven't had my hair cut since December so it's a lot longer.
  • I'm 46 instead of 45.
  • I'm walking a lot better since finding out all the pain came from being flat-footed and that arch supporting inserts make a huge difference.
  • I'm a few pounds heavier.  Hey, it was a long, cold, snowy winter.

Out of all these challenge prompts, this one has been the best!

Oh, and blessings to you on your relationship with you daughter in law. I have, as you no, pretty much no relationship with my stepkids, I just stay in one state and they in another, and for the most part I'm okay with that because they've hurt me enough times this feels safe, but not so deep down, I wish for more.

It makes me smile to read about the good things in your life! I'm so glad you have so many positives going on.
And who isn't a few pounds heavier after this winter?

Ellen...thank you. I do know your situation and I pray it one day improves. Aside from how it hurts you, I'm sure it kills Brad.

Debbie...thank you. The positives feel really good! And I don't know anyone who didn't gain a bit this winter.

Tee...Thanks!

Brad's on his way to visit two of his kids and their families tomorrow. He's full of trepidation, and loaded down with special, simple gifts. It doesn't kill him, but he wishes it were better. The truth is, they don't find time for him in their lives. I think there's a lot of anger since he left their mom (who remarried right away), but they don't want to talk about it...
