When Love Fades

Song Challenge, Day 16: a song you used to love, but now you hate.

Hate might be too strong a word, but the song I'm sharing today used to make my heart soar and now I feel nothing but heartache when I hear it.

To be the mother of a rebellious, newly minted adult (legally, anyway) daughter who is in the process of shedding everything you have ever taught her and all that you have hoped for her, is......a very tough role to find yourself in.

One day you are her mommy, her confidant, her role model, her secret-keeper, and the fixer of all her problems.  Then comes the day when she can't even look at you without rolling her eyes with disdain.  She tells you NOTHING and rejects your thoughts, advice, and even your love.

She tests limits, crosses lines, ignores rules (she is a legal adult, you know...you can't make her do what you say) and boldly flaunts bad choices you know will lead to nothing but heartbreak or worse for her.

Everyone assures you that it is a phase, that will pass in time....and all you can do is get on your knees and pray that it does before she makes a choice that will irrevocably change the course of her life or cause her harm.

And love her.  You always love her even as your heart hangs in shreds.

Thank you both. It's tough, but I'm not as depressed as this post sounds. I do appreciate the prayers, though. I hope she turns around before she finds real trouble.
