Wednesday Hodgepodge - Johnny Appleseed Edition

Join the fun w/ Joyce at
From This Side of the Pond
1. The Wednesday Hodgepodge this week falls on John Chapman's birth date.  He's more famously known as Johnny Appleseed...what's your favorite variety of apple?
~ I loved Red and Yellow Delicious apples when I was growing up, but I really like the strong flavor of Gala apples now.  Slice a Gala, add some cheddar....mmmm!

2.   When did you last say 'ick'?
~ Probably not all that long ago.  I work with kids every day.

3.   Do you think there's a generation gap?  Explain.
~ I think there's always one between a generation and the one that came before it and the one following it.  Now more than ever.  Technology is advancing so rapidly it intimidates a lot of older folks and there has been a huge shift in the morality and work ethic of this country that leaves many (including people my age...who aren't that old) shaking their heads.

4.  What's on your computer screen saver?  Do you leave it alone or change it often?
~ My background is a 4-generation picture of me, my mom, my son, and my grandkids.  I don't use the screen saver.  I have the laptop set to go to sleep within a couple of minutes.

5.  If you had the attention of the entire world for two minutes, what would you say?

~ Wow.  I don't know.  I really can't think of anything that wouldn't be a waste of my breath.  Religious extremists (of any religion) aren't going to listen to a message of peace, the part of society that wants everything handed to them isn't going to listen if I tell them to get off their duffs, kids aren't going to start showing respect for others or themselves just because I said to, the drug cartels won't quit selling their poison because I present them with the facts of how much damage they're causing......I guess I'd just share my faith and hope something resonated with someone.

6.  Four fashion trends to try this fall are-brocade/jacquard (fancy printed fabrics), peplum, lace, and printed pants...which of these four would you be most likely to wear?
~ Probably brocade in a jacket or something.  Not a lace kind of girl.  I have no idea what peplum is.  And there is no way this behind is going anywhere in pants with some big print all over them.  Some things the world just isn't ready for.  LOL

7.  What can make your bad day better?
~ God, music, and laughter.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

~ I've been volunteering at the local GOP office making those pesky everybody-loves-to-get-them political calls a couple of evenings a week.  I've been one of the loyal few for a while, but it's good to see more and more volunteers coming in as we get closer to the election and honestly, I'm having so much fun....the regulars are nuts (you have to be to keep your sanity when people are swearing at you, calling you the anti-Christ, blaming the country's problems on you, etc.).  I should be paying the GOP for letting me work there.

Seriously, though....our country is at a cross roads and this election is very important.  I can't urge you enough to vote or better yet, get out there and volunteer for you party.  It's always been my opinion that if you don't vote then you have no right to complain.  Well, you do, this being America and all, but as far as I'm concerned your credibility is zero at that point.

I like the idea that your screensaver is about 4 generations. I have one of my grandmother, mother, myself and my daughter. It is a lovely memory.

Now I'm going to have an apple and some cheese : )

It does seem that everyone talks and nobody listens. I agree we're at a crossroads, and a scary one at that. I never miss a chance to vote.

A peplum is like a ruffle on the bottom of a jacket. They can be pretty, but they remind me of the 80s.

Since my last post was about fashion, and how I'm reworking mine, these are the dumb things I know.

I've never had cheese with my apples. Also a blessing to share your Faith with others. Great advice in your random thought!

I'm thinking I would like a brocade vest under a denim jacket. And I still like golden delicious apples.

Retired....but for 3 years we could have had a 5 generation picture with my grandmother and my oldest grandchild.

Joyce...know what else is really, really good? Apples with Jiff's chocolate peanut butter.

Ellen...a ruffle on a jacket? That definitely sounds like the 80s. I'm not a big fan of anything too froo-froo.

Debby...you have no idea what you're missing! It's delicious.

Beth...that would look nice. I'm not much of a vest wearer, myself, but it would look good. I still like the goldens, too, but the tang of the Galas is soooo good. Especially this time of year. It "tastes" like fall to me.

I played J. Appleseed in a play when I was in fourth grade! lol...I think your ideas about the next generations are spot on, Stacy.
