Wednesday Hodgepodge

A BIG thanks to Joyce for coming up with the Hodgepodge questions
each week and hosting us all on her blog.

1. In your opinion what's the most important job in the world? Oh, and parenting is a given so besides parenting, what's the most important job in the world?
~ With parenting off the block....I really don't know.  Any job done well has merit, and everyone's job is the most important one to them since it's the one that immediately affects their circumstances.  I guess the only job I can think of right off the bat that I wouldn't even consider as having any importance at all is "regular spot on a reality show."

2. Share a favorite or not so favorite memory from a childhood birthday.
~ My parents had a big party for my 7th birthday.  It was held at my paternal grandmother's house...outside under the big old apple trees.  Grandma had had some mini strokes by then.  They didn't bother her much unless she got flustered and then she would start sputtering and mixing up words.  She would get so frustrated.  It was kind of funny and we kids kind of used to try and get her going.  Anyway, for this party they hung balloons all through the trees.  It was pretty cool looking (hey, this was 1971....we were still pretty low tech then) but it seemed like every time Grandma stood under one it would pop.  It never happened to anyone else and as far as I know no one was doing it on purpose, but she was really worked up by the time the party was over.

3. Peanut butter-crunchy or smooth?
~ Smooth.  I like peanut butter but not peanuts.  Crunchy is too close to being peanuts.

4. William Butler Yeats is credited as saying, "Happiness is neither virtue nor pleasure nor this thing nor that but simply growth, We are happy when we are growing." Your thoughts?
~ I think happiness is fleeting, for one thing.  It's too dependent on outside circumstances and we rely on others or things to make us happy.  A better thing to find is the deep-seated joy that comes from having a relationship with the Lord.

5. What's something that makes you cringe?
~ Vulgarity.  I can handle the occasional mild swear word, but I hate when people resort to crudeness to express themselves.

6. Name a song that always puts you in a good mood?
~ I could pick just about any worship song.  Besides those, I'd have to say....

7. The answer is yes. What's the question?
~ Are you having a good day?

8. Insert your own random thought here.
~ Life is staying busier than I'd expected.  My mom and her husband left yesterday for vacation.  We have their unbalanced sweet schnauzer for the next 2-3 weeks. Yea.  Not really.  Beyond that, the bus runs are starting to work themselves out.  We're running nearly on time.  I may still end up starting a few minutes earlier in the mornings, though.  The Civic Club met last night to kick off the year.  If I can't get the ladies motivated and bring in some new members (under the age of 75 would be a plus) it will probably be the last year, which would be a shame after a 92 year run.  I'm continuing to volunteer at the GOP office a couple of times a week.  It's kind of fun and I like the feeling of doing something, not just complaining.  Bible study is great....learning so much (may have to do a post on it) and the ladies' group is growing and coming together more and more.  There's just a lot to keep us busy right now so please understand if posting remains on the lighter side.

Hi Stacy, Wonder what was going on with grandma and those balloons?
Weird! Vulgarity is a great answers, it makes no sense to have to be that way. Have a great year at school keeping all those precious children safe. Debby

You totally should do a post about what you ladies are learning in Bible study :) I cringe at vulgarity too - and it just makes people sound stupid! I just want to tell the to pick a different word please! :)

I bet the party was fun with all those balloons. Poor grandma, must have been very frustrating for her. Maybe she had electricity in her body that affected the balloons. My Mom had that problem, she had a lot of problems with watches. After a week or so they would run backwards. She could take it off and it worked fine, but when she put it on, backwards it would go. Was so odd.

Low tech was kinda sweet and meaningful. Not sure some of the parties kids have today will be as memorable. I stuck to low tech for my kids parties.

Loved your answer to #1 : )
