What Would They Think

source
As we get closer and closer to election day I find myself wondering what the Founding Fathers would think of us?  I'm not even talking about the political stuff, of what's being done or not done to the Constitution, though I am sure they'd have quite a bit to say on the subject and it would sure be interesting to hear it.

No, I'm talking about how you can turn on the television, open the newspaper, pull up YouTube, or log into Facebook on any given day and practically be knocked off your chair by the virulent wave of hate, yes HATE, that explodes forth. Gone is any semblance of intelligent discussion, rational thought, respect, civility, or tolerance....those pointing the finger at intolerance, seeming to be the most intolerant of all.

Do you think those great men who set this country on its course would look at us and wonder, with all of our emotional rants and taunts, with our (in many, many cases) uninformed opinions and lack of understanding of government and the Constitution, with our unsubstantiated "facts"......and wonder if we were worth their sacrifice?

I, personally, believe they might be disappointed and maybe even a little angry at what we've done, especially of late, but I also believe that to a man they would say we were worth it, that this country was, and still is, worth it.  Those men, who shaped the Constitution and the course of this great nation, set an example for the world.  An example that shone bright like a star until we lost sight of their vision and convinced ourselves we knew better.

I love this nation and yes, if called to it, I would die defending her and the liberties we have been blessed with.  I will do what is within my power as a citizen to ensure that this nation continues on.  I am proud to be an American and I will never apologize for loving my country...faults and all.  And I will, I hope, continue to do it with intelligence, civility, and grace.  I pray that at some point we set aside our minor differences and remember that we are all Americans, whether we are Democrats or Republicans.

524.  The privilege of being a woman with a voice in what happens to her.
525.  The privilege of owning a home....that has solid walls, strong doors, a roof that doesn't leak, heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.
526.  The privilege of clean water at the twist of a knob.
527.  The privilege of education.
528.  The privilege of worshiping as I choose.

Love this post Stacy. I agree with you. That they would be angry at what has happen to our country. That yes it is indeed worth fighting for. Thanks for posting this my friend.
