It's Never Too Late For Friday Fragments

Mommy's IdeaIt's been a while since I've jumped in on Friday Fragments, but since I'm getting back to this blogging business.....  Friday Fragments come to us via Mrs. 4444 over at Half-Past Kissin' Time.  The idea is to give us bloggers a forum for life's little bits.  The stuff that's just not enough to write a whole post about.  Um, that's probably about 99% of life, LOL.  Anyway, you can click on the button and pop over to see the list of everyone who's linked up or to get all the info if you'd like to join in.

Things are getting back to normal around here now that the elections are over.  I can't say we are thrilled with the results, but we did our part.  Now we have to suck it up and get on with life and deal with what may come along with everyone else.

More than anything else I feel compelled to pray for this nation and its leaders.  There are so many angry, hurting people out there who feel betrayed or worse by their leaders.  There is so much talk of secession and civil war floating around.  Those in charge in Washington have a big job ahead of them if their goal is to save this country.  I pray that step one will finally be listening to the people.

The store I've been buying my clothes at since I was in 9th or 10th grade is closing sometime next month.  I'm heartbroken.  They have always had the best styles and they even conveniently started selling plus sizes just about the time I started needing them.  I don't know what I'm going to do now.

On the bright side, the closing of an entire chain means lots of sales.  At this point everything in the store is 50% off....except the clearance items that are 70% off.  Meg and I went this morning to see what we could find.  Quite a bit, actually.  We did nearly $200 in damage to my checking account, but we did get a LOT of clothes.

Tim and I went out to dinner with friends tonight.  Our anniversary is tomorrow.....28 years!  Since we have to go to the surprise 50th birthday party of a friend who recently passed the one year mark of being cancer-free, tonight may have been our celebration.  That would be okay.  We had great food (seafood buffet) and great conversation with two couples we love and value.  On the other hand, the birthday party is supposed to be over at 5:00 so you never know.

So, the big news all over the internet today is the end of the Hostess company (and apparently the world as we know it).  Everyone seems to be moaning the loss of their favorite snack cake.  Personally, I'm upset over the fate of the company and the jobs and how it all came about.  As far as Twinkies go....not going to miss them.  They are beyond gross....as are most of the Hostess cakes.  Ever read the ingredients label on any of them?  Nothing there that really sounds like food.

Well, it's getting late (at least for someone who got up at 4:00 this morning) and I have to get up and start cooking up a double batch of Hobo Beans for the birthday party, so I'd better say goodnight....and have a great weekend!

I was never fond of twinkies but I did like Ding Dongs. Hope that some company buys them out so that the Hostess goods live on.

I'm not pleased with the outcome of the election, but the people have spoken, so it's time for us to put on our big girl (and big boy) undies and deal with it. That doesn't mean that we don't work for things to change but this talk of civil war and/or secession is just plain crazy. God is still on the throne. This election is no surprise to Him and He can work His good in spite of what looks like a hopeless situation. In the meantime we pray - and pray some more.

I agree with you on the Hostess situation. There was a bakery in St Louis (just 25 miles from me) so there are local people who are now out of jobs. :-(
