The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ Mother's Day

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... The sun is shining, but temperatures are much cooler than they've been.  A "silly" Grackle sits on top of the Shady-nook.  He's there every day lately...all day.  He and his mate must have a nest up inside the roof.  I get a kick out of him because he sits up there chirping away (if nothing is on I can hear him inside even with the window shut) and flapping his wings in great circles...like an athlete warming up.  I wonder if he's crowing because he's a proud papa or being big and brave and scaring away any danger to his family?

I am thinking... about the things I need to do today to prepare dinner for my mom and her husband.

I am thankful... for wonderful friends who keep me from getting too depressed over things I can't control.

In the kitchen... Lots and lots of dirty dishes waiting for me (even though it's Mother's Day...no one else is going to do them), a spiral-sliced brown sugar-honey ham in the oven, and a beam of sunlight through the window to fall right where I sit with my laptop.

I am wearing... jeans and a long-ish, swingy tunic.

I am creating... good moods in my family, I hope, as I let them sleep to their hearts' content.

I am going... to make dinner today for Mom, her husband, and my hubby and I.  One of my kids is out on his own, married and parenting two children.  The kiddo still at home has to work all day.

I am wondering...what this next chapter of life...the truly empty nest...is going to hold.

I am reading... a mildly Christian romance.  It's an okay story, but not overwhelmingly Christian or romantic.

I am hoping... the doctors soon figure out why the hubs is so darn tired and in pain all the time.  He's 52, but might as well be 80.

I am looking forward to... the end of the school year is still my answer here.  The closer we get to the end of the year the worse the kids behave.  I believe I have written up more kids in the last two weeks than I have in 10 years of driving a school bus.  They are getting on my last nerve and driving me crazy!  Everyone I know who works with kids is saying the same thing.

I am learning... to let go.

Around the house... A man from our church may come and clean out my fish pond and get it ready for summer today.  He is the same man who installed it for me and did such a wonderful job fixing up our yard last year.

I am pondering... what to serve with the ham today.  I probably should have pondered that a little sooner.

A favorite quote for today... "Well done is better than well said." - Benjamin Franklin

One of my favorite things... Being on the shore.  It doesn't matter if it's the shore of a pond, lake or ocean or even the bank of a river.  Being near the water makes me happy.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  Tomorrow morning I have another round of tests.  This time it's the nerve conduction one on my arms (they did the legs last week).  Tuesday the Civic Club meets.  Wednesday night the young adults from church are having an open mic night.  Then of course there is surviving another week of school with the kids getting even crazier.  Saturday will find me meeting up with the women from church for our Bible study.

A peek into my day... Well, I've already pretty much told you I'm making dinner and having my mom and her husband down and doing some cleaning and throwing some laundry in the wash.  A pretty relaxing day all in all.
